This Is A New Four Door Model ford Pickup Truck With A Full Size Rear Seat. The Problem Is That The Rear Seat Does Not Have Any Head Rests/restraints On The Back Of The Seat. During A Fast Stop Or Accident Passengers In The Back Seat Will Strike There Head On The Back Window Causing Serious Injury. ford Has Just Changed The Truck Design To Include Head Rests/restraints On Its F150 Supercrew But Will Not Recall/replace All The Rear Seats Made Prior To The Change. All F150 Supercrews Made Up To Approx. Oct. 2000 Need This Correction. Calling ford Has Not Helped In The Matter. *ak

Rear Seats Do Not Have Headrests Or Any Type Of Head Support. The Rear Window Glass Is Immediately Behind The Seats. Rear Seat Passengers Can Hit Their Heads On The Rear Window. ford Has Added Headrests To Current Production Vehicles So They Obviously Agree With This Major Safety Concern. I Feel ford Should Recall All 2001 F150 Supercrews And Change The Rear Seat To The Current Seat They Are Now Using.

My ford f-150 Supercrew 4-door Pickup Truck Does Not Have Head Restraints In The Rear 60/40 Split Bench Seat. This Is A Safety Concern As Rear Seat Passengers Will Hit Their Heads On The Rear Glass In A Crash. New Trucks Of This Model Are Now Redesigned And Have Rear Head Restraints. Models Manufactured Earlier Do Not. When I Called ford Customer Service To Complain Of The Safety Concern Of Having No Rear Head Restraints And To Ask For The New Redesigned Seats, They Said They Would Not Replace The Seats. They Are Ignoring Owners With Models Manufactured Before The Newly Redesigned Rear Seats. ford Also Redesigned The Front Seats To Now Include Head Restraints Instead Of The Old Design Of Taller Integrated Head Restraints. I Believe This Is Also A Safety Concern In That I Cannot Adjust The Front Seat Head Restraint To Properly Protect Me In A Crash. I Also Wish To Have New Front Seat Captain’s Chairs From The Newly Designed Model’s Front Seats. *ak

The 2001 ford Supercrew Does Not Come With Rear Headrests. There Has Been A Few Occassions Where My Passengers Have Bumped Their Heads On The Glass Panel Just Behind The Rear Seats. I Am Requesting That The Nhtsa Investigate This Issue With ford To Determine A Suitable Fix. Through My Research, I Have Learned That ford Has Upgraded The Rear Seats (current Production) However My Unit Was One Of The First Produced And Did Not Receive The Updated Seats. Please Advise.

I Believe The New Change To The Mid-model f-150 Supercrew’s Rear Seat, By Adding The Head Restraint Is A Great Idea And Should Be Retrofitted Into The Older Models Which Were Not Equipped With Those Restraints. Sitting At The Height In Which The Seats Are Constructed Can (and Does) Result In The Head Striking The Rear Window Upon Acceleration And When Whipped Back In A Sudden Braking Incident. To Prevent Any Form Of Litigation From An Accident ford Mo. Co. Should Issue A Recall And Ammend The Situation. *ak

If I’m Involved In A Rear End Type Of Crash Where I’m Hit From Rear I’m Concerned That My Rear Seated Passengers Head May Hit The Rear Window Glass Because Of A Flaw In Design Of Rear Seats Not Having A Head Rest. Your Attention To This Matter Is Greatly Appreciated Since I Have Two Elementary Sschool Children That Are My Main Passengers And Since They Cannot Sit In Front Of Truck Because Of Airbag Deployment Concerns. Thank You.

Recently Purchased This Vehicle And Noticed That Rear Passengers Have No Protection To Stop Their Heads From Hitting The Rear Window Of The Truck In The Event Of A Sudden Stop Or Collision. Had A Need For A Sudden Stop With A Passenger In The Rear With This Occurring. No Injury Occurred This Time. Have Noticed ford Is Now Equipping New Vehicle With Head Rests. Is This A Known Safety Hazard That Needs Addressing? I Believe So Before Someone Is Unnecessarily Injured Due To An Inherent Design Flaw That ford Apparently Acknowledges By A New Seat Redesign. *ak

My Early Built F150 Supercrew Did Not Come With Rear Seat Headrests. It Has Come To My Attention That The Newer Supercrews Do Come With Headrests. As We All Know, Headrests Are Extremely Important In Crashes To Prevent Injuries, And I Think ford Has Realized That In The Supercrews, So They Put Them In The Newer Ones. I Believe ford Should Have The Responsibilty To Replace The Seats Of All Supercrews That Did Not Come With The Rear Head Rests. *ak

Head Rests Have Been Installed On Newer Models Of The Same, I Feel That ford Should Recall My Truck And Others Of The Same Year (2001) And Update Our Rear Seats To Have Headrests. I Beleive That The Headrest Were Installed By ford For The Prevention Of A Passenger’s Head Be Put Thru The Rear Window. This Is Definitley A Problem That ford Saw Coming And Decided To Include The Headrest On The Newer Version Of The Same Year For Precaution..this To Me Should Be A Recall By ford To Replace My Present Rear Seat Wihout Headrests, With One That Has Them. My ford f-150 Supercrew 4-door Pickup Truck Does Not Have Head Restraints In The Front, Or Rear, 60/40 Split Bench Seats. This Is A Safety Concern As Rear Seat Passengers Will Hit Their Heads On The Rear Glass In A Crash. New Trucks Of This Model Are Now Redesigned And Have Rear Head Restraints. Models Manufactured Earlier Do Not. I Believe This Is Also A Safety Concern In That I Cannot Adjust The Front Seat Head Restraint To Properly Protect Me In A Crash. I Also Wish To Have New Front Seats From The Newly Designed Model’s. I Inquired As To Why The Seat Design Was Changed, And Was Told That All Automotive Manufacturers Institute Running Changes During Current Model Production In The Name Of Product Improvement. Personally, I Feel That The Change Was Made To Correct A Potentially Dangerous Situation That The Manufacturer Was Aware Of All Along. I Wonder If These Same People Would Let Their Families Ride In A Vehicle With The “old” Style Seats???

The Early 2001 Model F150 Supercrew Pickups Came With A Lack Of Headrest For The Rear Seats. I Have Carried Passengers In The Back Seats And They All Have Expressed The Concern That Their Heads Rest Against The Rear Window. In The Case Of An Accident, Their Heads Would Hit The Rear Window And Could Cause Serious Injury. The Newer Model 2001 Supercrew Pickups Have The Rear Head Restraints In Place. *ak

I Have A Concern Regarding The Lack Of Rear Passenger Head Restraint. In The Event Of A Collision There Are No Provisions To Prevent The Rear Passenger’s Head From Impacting The Rear Glass. Models Manufactured Earlier Do Not. ford Also Redesigned The Front Seats To Now Include Head Restraints Instead Of The Old Design Of Taller Integrated Head Restraints. I Believe This Is Also A Safety Concern In That I Cannot Adjust The Front Seat Head Restraint To Properly Protect Me In A Crash. If This Is Not A Safety Concern, Why Has ford Made The Change In The Middle Of A Model Year? Why Are They Keeping Quite About It? I Very Concerned Since The Reason I Bought The Truck Was I Needed A Way To Carry Friends, Family, And Business Associates As Well As Cargo. Now I Have To Worry That In A Front Or Rear Impact Collision Passengers In The Back Seat Would Most Likely Put Their Heads Through The Rear Window.

Rear Passenger Seats In My F150 Supercrew Has No Head Protection For My Passengers. Passengers Head Are Not Protected During Sudden Stops Or Wrecks. I Was Forced To Break Suddenly To Avoid An Accident. My Rear Passengers Head Smacked The Rear Window Causing One Person Minor Head Injury. I Don’t Understand How ford Is Allowed To Produce Such A Safety Hazard To Its Passengers. I Would Like ford To Provide Rear Seat Head Rests To Protect Rear Passengers In The Event Of Crash Or Sudden Stop. Small Pickup Are Required To Have Head Rest When The Riders Head Rest Close To The Rear Windows. This Is A 2001 Truck With Major Defect That Could Pose Serious Injury To Passengers.

Purchased Truck New On 11/20/00. Rear Seat Has No Head Rest, Which Will Cause Some Serious Head Injuries In An Accident. Did Not Realize The Seat Had No Headrest Until After The Purchase. Talking To Other Owners, I Have Learned That ford Motor Company Is Now Installing Seats With Headrest. If This Was Not A Safety Issue, Why Would ford Motor Company Redesign The Rear Seat At Mid Year.i Understand That ford Is Not Doing Anything When Customers Call Them, Had I Known That They Were Installing A Redesigned Seat With Headrest In The Newer Trucks Off The Assy. Line, I Would Have Waited To Make My Purchase.

I Ordered My f-150 Supercrew In August 2000. The Truck Was Built In Late September And I Took Delivery In The First Week Of October 2000. Although My Truck Was Sold As A 2001 Model, ford Has Subsequently Made Two Critical Safety Modifications In The 2001 Supercrews That Were Produced After My Build Date. The “latest” 2001 Model Includes Rear Seat Headrests And Child Seat Anchors In The Rear Seats. As Noted In My Report, I Was Recently Driving In The City At Approximately 25 Mph When I Was Forced To Make A Panic Stop. My Wife, Who Was Riding In The Middle Of The Rear Seat (two-point Seat Belt), Was Initially Pushed Forward By The Force Of The Braking Then Hit Her Head On The Rear Window Upon Recoil. Fortunately, She Suffered No Injuries. At The Same Time, My 3 Year-old Daughter (sitting In A Properly Installed, Double Shoulder Harness Child Seat) Was Also Pushed Forward And Back By The Force Of The Stop. Despite The Fact That She Was Well Secured In The Seat, The Forward And Back Motion Was Intensified By The Lack Of A Child Seat Anchor. In My Opinion, ford‘s Recognition Of These Safety “defects” Is Clearly Demonstrated In The Modifications That Were Made To Trucks Produced After November 2000. I Also Believe That Given The Potential For Serious Injury As A Result Of These Safety Defects, All 2001 Supercrews Produced Prior To The Modification Date Should Be Recalled For Retrofitting. *ak
