At 44460 Miles The Above Parts Were Replaced And Now On September 23, 2013 Some Of The Same Parts Have Failed Again. The Cost Of The Original Repair Was $410.62. I Believed At The Time Of The Original Repair That All Or A Good Share Of The Cost Should Have Been Covered By ford!!! There Definitely A Problem With These Brakes. Scrape, Scrape, Scrape!! There Needs To Be A Design Change In The Brake Parts. Our Other Cars Have Now Brake Problems Such As The Above. ford Needs To Own Up To The Fact That They Have A Poor Design Or A Poor Selection Of Components. On Or About January 21, 2014, I Received A Letter From ford Regarding Customer Satisfaction Program 13n02. After Reading The Letter, I Realized That I Was Experiencing 2 Of The 3 Symptoms Noted In The Letter(spongy Feel When Applying Brakes And Increased Amount Of Pedal Effort Required To Stop Car). I Called My Local Dealer And They Said To Bring It. On Monday, January 27, 2014, I Took The Car In To The Dealership. They Tested The Brakes And They Claim That They Could Not Duplicate The Problem And Therefore Refused To Fix The Problem. I Called ford Headquarters And Reported The Problem To Them Also. Because It Was Not A Recall, But A service Advisory, They Said That There Was Nothing They Could Do About The Problem Because They Could Not Duplicate The Symptoms At That Time. I Told Both The Local ford Dealership And ford Headquarters That I’m Still Having The Problem Whether Or Not They Could Duplicate The Problem. I Also Asked Both Of Them If They Were Waiting For Someone To Have An Accident Before They Did Anything About The Problem. Well, As A Result Of ford‘s Unwillingness To Fix My Brake Problem, I Got Into A Car Accident On Monday, April 14, 2014. I Applied The Brakes On My Car And The Car Would Not Stop; And I Rear-ended The Car In Front Of Me.

While Backing Out Of A Parking Space, The Brake Pedal Was Hard To Push And The Vehicle Was Slow To Stop. The Car Started To Stall And A Warning “low Engine Oil Pressure” Was Displayed, Then The Car Recovered When In Drive. Approximately A Week Later, The Brakes Were Again Hard To Push While Backing Out Of A Parking Space. In The Following Week, The Same Issue Occurred Multiple Times. Last Week, The Brakes Became Hard To Push And The Vehicle Was Slow To Stop While In Drive. I Have Parked The Car Until service Can Be Performed. Fluids And Brake Pads Have Been Checked And Are Not The Issue. In Searching The Web And Various ford Forums, And Speaking With A Mechanic, It Appears To Be A Brake Booster Issue. The Car Is A 2011 Model With <24,000 Miles And Is Three Months Out Of Manufacturers Warranty.

I Was Driving On The Highway With My 3 Kids And My Wife And As I Got Off The Exit I Noticed The Car Wasn’t Braking, So As I Got To The First Stop Left I Decided To Turn Left And See If I Could Fix The Problem. As I Was Turning The Sheering Wheel Locked Up, Brakes Didn’t Brake Then The Car Started To Shake. I Almost Hit On Coming Traffic At 40 Mil Per Hour. As Soon As The Car Bypassed On Coming Traffic A Had To Restart My Car And It Was Fine. As Soon As I Got Home, It Happened Again. I Was About 2ft From Hitting My Garage Door.

    have 2011edge, going on 4th issue with brakes mainly rotors —- initially I was told at the first dealer, rotor issue was my own fault as I work from home and don’t drive my car often enough… 3 times a week is why I have a problem 😕 Hun? Ok. Forward 8 mons. Parked at airport for 4 day trip came back to car w/ same issue again- feels like indent in rotor, breaks don’t catch well and knock / jut when breaking. Take it in again, this time they ground them smooth. Forward a yr. happened again, now I have to pay for new break pads and new rotors??? What is going on.. present day, just got back from another vacation 5 days in airtight lot and AGAIN the rotors have warped again!! Now I’m just furious. There is now valid reason why I have to go though this again 4th time in 4 years- something is faulty in this 2011 Ford Edge design.

    Very Old Mechanic…First off, we need to understand the system..when disc brakes came out, foot pedal pressure wasn’t strong enough, so engine vacuum was used to increase pressure to wheels, Now along came anti-skid systems, speed sensors on each wheel, sent their speed to a computer which could determine if one wheel was stopped, then computer would release pressure to that one wheel. Now on the Ford Edge, Brake Foot pressure to the ABS Hydralic control box, which has a electric motor attached, that has a o, giving center bearing (would wobble) having 2 valves on oppsite sides would puslate brakes, giving a ‘brakes on/off feeling’..On the main hydralic unit is also 12 other valves, some that can let a little pressure out of individual wheel line, and others that can let more pressure into individual lines. These 12 valves are all controled by computer, which uses individual wheel information. So, you can see, if any one of these 12 valves don’t work right, may be a piece of dirt in brake fluid or electrical problems. Somes of these may be ‘dump valves, letting brake fluid out, so where does brake fluid go ?…If you look at master clylinder, one line is for foot pressure, other to dump fluid from hydralic unit. (this, I checked, in cold garage, but back line seemed to be open to the reservoir) As most old mechanics, especially using our own money, we do the cheap things first…Knowing excess space between pads and disc, causes more brake pedal, we’ll change pads, but that didn’t help. We know, what brakes we have are strong, then the next and costly thing is the hydralic unit and in my case, a new one made a new Ford Edge for me. Part Cost of over $600…my labor was cheap, and with the help of my wife, we started bleeding air out, first at the hydralic unit (losened lines, push pedal done, tighten, pedal up, and repeat until no air, be sure not to let master Clyinder become dry, or you start again) and then to each wheel. (This was way I was taught in 1950s, and it worked very well in 2020) One missing thing left out is ‘where is the computer that control all these valves and reads wheel speed, evidentally that part never goes bad, may be part of master computer?’ Have a Great day! gene howe
